This rare book is an important historical resource that looks at the Chinese and Philippine collection at the Oriental Museum in Valladolid Spain. Here, we have the English translation of the 1864 book by the Frenchman Jean Mallat, "The Philippines: History, Geography, Customs, Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce of the Spanish Colonies in Oceana." This 1994 reprint by the Philippine National Historical Institute is hard-to-find. It is new although there is some yellowing on the dustjacket. Here, we feature "Report on the Commerce and Shipping of the Philippine Islands", a 1979 reprint of the original 1838 account written by Rafael Diaz Arenas. This rare and often-quoted report is on the commerce and shipping of the Philippines. The book has 96 pages, and includes graphs. It is in very good condition for a book published in 1979.
